In light of the controversy surrounding the former Washington Redskins name and logo, I feel it is important to offer some historical and personal perspective. Having worked extensively with the organization during the 2000 and 2001 NFL seasons, I produced a substantial volume of graphic material incorporating the team’s name and iconic imagery. At the time, both were firmly established elements of the franchise’s identity and the NFL’s visual history, although their cultural significance and appropriateness were already subjects of debate.

During those two seasons, I worked closely with editors, writers, and production staff on numerous publications, including Redskins Weekly, the official stadium program, The Insider, and materials for the Washington Redskins Leadership Council and Darrell Green’s Youth Life Foundation.

Our work extended well beyond traditional publication design. DS Grafx provided original logo design, product photography, cover illustrations, packaging, and production-ready artwork for a variety of team-related merchandise, including video packaging and promotional publications.

It was a unique opportunity to combine my experience in commercial illustration, graphic design, and print production with one of Washington’s most recognizable sports franchises. Whatever one’s perspective on the team’s former name, the work remains an important chapter in my professional career and a reflection of the visual identity and design practices of that era.
