Packaging Design

Cover designs of promotional materials created for the Public Broadcasting Service.

DS Grafx’s in-house packaging design capabilities have served businesses both large and small, including the Public Broadcasting Service, PBS.

What began as a single design assignment for PBS soon developed into an ongoing creative relationship, producing dozens of promotional pieces for the network’s on-air fundraising campaigns. Projects included camera-ready artwork for CD/DVD covers, VHS tape jackets, and a variety of related promotional materials.

Building on the success of these projects, PBS turned to DS Grafx’s to develop a new design template and a series of sample covers for the PBS Program Guide, bringing a consistent visual identity to its publications while allowing each program to retain its own distinctive character.

Packaging design may represent the final 10% of a company’s marketing investment, but its influence on a product’s success can be far greater. It is often the first impression, the visual connection between a product and its customer, and an essential part of establishing a recognizable identity.

Since most businesses cannot justify the expense of an in-house design department, outsourcing becomes a practical and economical alternative. Choosing the right design firm, however, requires more than comparing costs. Experience, creative judgment, technical expertise, and a proven track record are what distinguish one firm from another.
